§ 66-31. Chief of police.

  • The chief of police shall be the commanding officer of the police department and shall be responsible for the administration, training, discipline and morale of the members of the department and for their effective deployment and utilization to preserve and maintain law and order in the city, and beyond the city limits in those areas which are within the police jurisdiction of the city as provided in section 85 of the city's Charter and as further provided in W. Va. Code §§ 8-12-5(32), (33), (43) and 8-12-19 and to enforce all applicable provisions of state law, this Code and other ordinances, rules and regulations of the city.
